What is leave management software?

Leave management software lets employees request time off, routes approvals, updates balances, and keeps an auditable record of leave types and policies. Dayzen leave management runs that apply → approve → balance cycle inside HRMS, with holiday calendars, sandwich leave rules, and related comp-off workflows.

Policy engine

Sandwich leave and policy depth

Dayzen can apply sandwich rules per leave type or across leave types, include weekends and holidays, detect single multi-day sandwiches, and evaluate adjacent leave applications. Special leave kinds such as birthday, granted, and time-based flexi leave can be exempted. Rejected or cancelled sandwich requests restore sandwich metadata credits correctly. For a policy-first explainer, read sandwich leave explained.Comp-off (related). Comp-off can be earned for holiday, weekend, or overtime work and redeemed as leave credit or handled as encashment where configured, with expiry processing. A dedicated comp-off feature page may follow; today these workflows sit alongside leave management.

Dayzen includes leave type templates such as Casual, Sick, Earned, and Emergency, plus custom templates managed through leave type configuration and policy assignments.

  • What is sandwich leave?

Sandwich leave rules can treat intervening weekends and/or holidays between leave days as deductible leave, based on policy settings. Dayzen supports per-leave-type or all-leave-type trigger modes, multi-day detection, adjacent-leave detection, and exemptions for special leave kinds such as birthday, granted, and time-based flexi leave.

  • How does leave relate to payroll LOP?

Attendance and leave outcomes feed payroll processing. Loss-of-pay adjustments are part of Dayzen payroll workflows when unpaid absence needs to be reflected in pay.
